Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy

Welcome to the forefront of mental health innovation!

What is Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy?

At the intersection of science and compassion lies a groundbreaking approach to healing and transformation: Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy also known as KAP. In a world where traditional treatments sometimes fall short, this revolutionary therapeutic method offers new hope and possibilities for individuals facing the challenges of mood disorders, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. KAP is also effective at augmenting an established mental health regime in order to achieve peak mental wellbeing.

FDA Approved - Legal - Efficacy proven by evidence-based medical research

  • FDA - the strictest medical regulatory agency in the world - approved Ketamine's use in anesthesia in 1970.
  • Ketamine is well understood in the medical world: used by physicians, first responders, and wartime medics.
  • Ketamine is relied upon for its dissociative effects in the medical world.
  • Innovative: the use of Ketamine in conjunction with psychotherapy.
  • A series of studies in the early 2000's showed Ketamine's effectiveness as an antidepressent, and is now used "off label" to treat mental health conditions. While using Ketamine for depression and other mental health concerns may be "off label", it is completely legal under medical supervision.
  • Medical research proves that KAP has an 80% efficacy rate in treating mental disorders such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, obsessive–compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders and other conditions.
  • Taking advantage of the effects of Ketamine on neuroplasticity can allow for a reconciliation of past negative experiences with one's current condition.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy = Therapy, Facilitated by Medication KAP is a PROCESS. Processing is what makes the durable difference and induces healing.

  1. Trust established and patient prepared for experience by a trained and licensed therapist. Preparation includes individual intention setting by the patient.
  2. Space "held" or by licensed therapist and/or guide/group leader with individuals' trusted companion during medicine session.
  3. Lessons learned and new perspectives reinforced by trained therapist with integration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ketamine is considered a dissociative anesthetic with properties that has unique effects on the mind and body. Ketamine is a drug with a high safety profile that has been used as an anesthetic since the 1970's.

A series of studies in the early 2000's showed Ketamine's effectiveness as an antidepressent, and is now used "off label" to treat mental health conditions. While using Ketamine for depression and other mental health concerns may be "off label", it is completely legal under medical supervision.

The term "psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy" refers to the use of a mind-altering medication during a psychotherapy session. The medication helps to open the patient's mind to the new ways of thinking or feeling that the therapy is helping the patient achieve.

While psychedelics for therapeutic healing have only recently come back into western medicine, they are increasingly well supported by research and scientific evidence, and also have a rich history in other cultures dating back thousands of years. Being a psychedelic-assisted therapy program means that we have integrated psychedelic medicine with psychotherapy to treat conditions like depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and trauma.

The critical element of our services is the psychotherapy that initially prepares you for the experience and then integrates your experience with your new way of feeling and being in the world. The emphasis here is that the medication is an adjunct to therapy, not a replacement for doing the work that is required to get mentally healthy.

Psychedelic medications taken without the guidance of a trained therapist are not likely to make a difference to a patient's long term thinking or feeling when not under the influence.

BTC's treatment protocols have been designed to help those suffering from treatment resistant mental health conditions, including depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and trauma.

Though we want to treat and assist in healing everyone, this type of therapy is not for everyone. You will be closely evaluated to determine your eligibility.

Absolute CONTRAINDICATIONS are as follows:

Ketamine's demonstrated ability to produce antidepressant and anxiolytic effects likely interacts with the processes involved in psychotherapy, ideally as a conduit for rapid-change, increasing treatment engagement and adherence, building the therapeutic alliance, and lowering defensiveness by providing reprieves from distressing symptomology while inducing transpersonal experiences at higher doses. Continued engagement in psychotherapy after ketamine administration may prolong the often-transient effects of ketamine and allow for the integration of psychological insights into everyday functioning.
